The question on which EACs registry system must or could be used for redemption (or cancellation) it related to the question of where should the power plant be located for production and consumption. The following steps act as a guideline on this:
- Are there any restriction by the government which is geographically valid for your entity? Ie. if your facilities are located within Germany, the national register (Herkunftsnachweisregister) has to be used (by the utility). And it is the same for all EECS countries.
- Are you obliged to fulfill renewable energy quotas and you have to buy a certain type of EACs?
- Is there a transition phase where there is at present a national registry in the consumption country but ex-domain redemption is allowed (ie. Hungary)?
- Are there multiple registries in the absent of a national one? Like NECS (ex-domain), I-REC and TIGR, where one can redeem for the same country within the registry.
