To quote RECS International, “The electricity generated by means of a renewable energy source is considered renewable electricity.” And a look at the AIB “EECS Rules Fact Sheet 5 TYPES OF ENERGY INPUTS AND TECHNOLOGIES” shows the difference between technology used, for example.:
- solar
- wind
- hydro-electric head installations
- marine
- thermal
and types of fuels (or heat source) used (all renewable), for example:
- solid: wood, biomass from agriculture
- liquid: refined vegetable oil
- gaseous: bionaturalgas (biomethan)
- heat: geothermal
- Mechanical source or other: Wind, hydro & marine
In our experience, most clients use electricity from hydro-, wind-, solar, biomass- and geothermal power plants.
If you would like to use the EACs with a GHG regime or a special green power product certification ie. EKOenergy or green-e, additional rules might aplly.
